FAQ: Frequently Asked Questions
What programs do you use?
We're both working with software that's available for free such as Gimp to create designs, drafts, graphics and the like, Netbeans and Notepad++ to write code and develop, and sometimes Inkscape to create vector graphics.
Why do you only use royalty-free or even your own pictures?
From a purely moral and legal point of view, it is simply not acceptable for us personally to use images against the will of the creator. In addition, one should respect the copyright of others just as one would expect others to respect the copyright of oneself. The respective photographer invested just as much time and love in their works as you do yourself. And apart from that, as mentioned above, it is not legally allowed to use copyrighted material and we don't want to get into trouble because of a hobby.
Are all your resources and scripts selfmade?
Yes. Sometimes it's a lot of work when you have to draw something, or when you have to play around with watercolors to create brushes; or when you have to take photos to create textures - but it's fun for us and we try to work without other people's pictures for the most part. However, sometimes we still use license-free images where editing and sharing is allowed instead of our own.
Which content management system are you using?
Designfreaks is powered by a completely self-written system. The release of our system is not planned.
Would you offer another CMS for visitors?
A CMS is a rather large project, which requires maintenance and support; we don't want to deny the question completely, but at the moment there is none planned, because we can't guarantee that every user will get adequate support if there are problems that can't always be avoided with such large projects.
UPDATE 2017/09/01 Since we've been asked more and more often, we've decided to offer a free CMS for visitors in the future. No estimated time of arrival, though.
Are you accepting orders?
No, sorry. We don't have the time to create individual pieces adapted to your wishes and on the other hand, we offered this service in the past and had very bad experiences with it.
I want to be a part of your team. Is this possible?
Designfreaks was started as a project by both of us and will remain so in the future.
I'm unsure if it's allowed to [...]
We don't bite! If you are not sure if you are allowed to do something specific with our designs, resources, graphics or downloads, please feel free to contact us. You can find everything else in our rules.
